One Day Nature Itinerary of Gandhi Bazaar

Basavanagudi is not just about heritage & culture but also offers a beautiful green serene natural environment, with parks and lakes. Here’s a detailed one-day itinerary focused on experiencing the natural beauty of Basavanagudi.

Morning walk @ MN Krishna Rao Park

  • Time: 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: Start your day with a peaceful walk in the famous Krishna Rao Park. The park has a great walker line that covers the entire park. The park also has a badminton court, basketball court, skating ground, children’s play area, and an open ground to try cricket or any other sport of your choice! 

Enjoy your Breakfast in South Thindies:

  • Time: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: Have a sumptuous breakfast at South Thindies. Start with their Akki or Ragi roti which is a local Kannadiga favorite. The masala dose or set dose is also delicious. Finish off with their freshly brewed coffee

Explore the vibrant landscape of Lalbagh:

  • Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: Lalbagh Botanical Garden has everything from a lake to a hillock. Explore the vast greenery, visit the serene Lalbagh Lake, the Glass House, the clock, and the Rose Garden. Don’t miss the iconic Lalbagh Rock, a 3,000-million-year-old natural formation. The park has flora from all across the globe, so make sure you rejuvenate yourself in the greenery.

Have a hearty meal in MTR:

  • Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: From Lalbagh (North Gate exit) head to MTR to enjoy a delicious South Indian meal, at one of Bangalore’s most iconic restaurants. Make sure you finish your lunch with the “fruit salad” with ice cream topping. If you can still manage little space in your stomach after a heavy meal do try the famous  Rava Idli, Masala Dosa, and coffee.

Relax at Bugle Rock Park 

  • Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: Bugle Rock Park is a lush green space, with a historic value attached to it –  with ancient rock formations and a watchtower. The watchtower was used during the Kempe Gowda period to watch over the area and blow a bugle in case of any invasions – getting the name “Bugle Rock” park to this place. The watchtower offers panoramic views of the city. The park is also a culturally active place, that has a place dedicated to the local poets and also has an open stage that hosts a variety of cultural activities. The park is a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.

Savour Filter Coffee at By2Coffee:

  • Time: 4:00 PM – 4:30 AM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description:  After exploring Bugle Rock Park, head to the east entrance of Bugle Rock Park to exit near the By2coffee hotel. Enjoy the freshly brewed coffee, and you may also taste their khara bath or soft fluffy idli.

Evening : Yediyur Lake

  • Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: Yediyur Lake which sits at the edge of Basavanagudi is believed to be one of the oldest lakes in the city. The lake is easily accessible via the arterial Kanakapura Road and can be reached by auto/ola. The Yediyur Lake is believed to have existed from the days of the Hoysala kings. The lake also offers boating services, do enjoy your evening in the boat 🙂 

Late Evening : Ramanjaneya gudda

  • Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: This is one of the popular landmarks in Basavangudi- Hanumanthana gudda or Ramanjaneya gudda means the “Hill of Lord Hanuman and Lord SriRam”. A major temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is located here a huge statue of Lord Sri Ram hugging Hanuman. The hillock is surrounded by parks and there is also a children’s park as well. This place is also culturally active with a lot of dance and music performances, the most famous festival of “Gudiya Sambrahama” is also hosted here and has seen the likes of Rajesh Vaidya and Rukmini Vijayaukumar perform.

Dine at Roti Ghar 

  • Time: 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Location: Gandhi Bazaar
  • Description: End your adventure with a great meal in Roti Ghar. Roti offers a variety of cuisines from South India to North India as well as Indo-Chinese. The “Barjari bhojana” is a hot favorite among locals that has a variety of food served on plantain leaf.

Tips : 

Wear Comfortable Footwear: As there will be a lot of walking, comfortable footwear is a must, but avoid sneakers /shoes as you may have to take off your footwear in the temples.

Stay Hydrated: Advisable to always carry a water bottle, especially when visiting parks and markets.

Plan for Traffic: Bangalore traffic is unpredictable, so plan your travel time accordingly. You can alternatively take the metro – alight at “National College” on the green line. Gandhi Bazaar is a 1 Km walk from the metro station- you may walk or consider Autos that charge you around 50 bucks.
